Automated Bitfinex margin funding, in five steps.
Stratum is a non-custodial Bitfinex funding bot: your balances stay on Bitfinex, your strategy places funding offers, and your reports stay tied to Bitfinex events.
You deposit on Bitfinex.
USD, USDT, BTC, ETH, or any of the 38 supported funding currencies. Stratum never sees the deposit — it lives in your Bitfinex wallet.
We read your balances.
Your scoped API key lets Stratum see Funding wallet balances, current FRR, and the full order book. Read-only on accounts. No withdraw, no trade, no transfer.
Your strategy places offers.
Adaptive Spread, Maturity Ladder, Rate Spread — whatever you configured. We tier offers across rate buckets and maturities, re-checking the book and repricing on your plan cadence (60s, down to 15s on higher plans).
Borrowers take your offers.
When a margin trader needs USD to short BTC, they borrow from the funding book. If your rate is competitive, they take yours. Bitfinex handles collateral, default risk, and matching.
Interest credits your wallet, daily.
Each day, Bitfinex credits accrued interest to your Funding wallet. Stratum stores the related funding ledger events so earnings views and exports can be reconciled back to Bitfinex data.
Frequently asked questions
How does Stratum connect to Bitfinex?
You create a Bitfinex API key with funding permissions enabled and the withdraw scope disabled, then paste the key and secret into Stratum. From that point Stratum reads your funding wallet and places, cancels, and reprices funding offers on your behalf. Your funds never leave your Bitfinex account.
Is it safe? Can Stratum withdraw my funds?
No. Stratum is built for API keys that have the withdraw scope turned off, so even if the key were exposed it could not move money off Bitfinex. The key only allows reading your funding wallet and managing funding offers — not trading, not transfers, and not withdrawals. We recommend creating a dedicated funding-only key for Stratum.
Do I keep custody of my coins?
Yes. Stratum is non-custodial. Your coins stay in your own Bitfinex funding wallet the entire time, and Bitfinex remains the custodian and counterparty for every loan. Stratum only sends instructions through the scoped API key; it never holds, pools, or has signing authority to remove your balance.
How fast does Stratum place and reprice offers?
Stratum re-checks the funding book and reprices stale offers on a fixed cadence — about every 60 seconds by default, and as fast as roughly every 15 seconds on higher plans. When the FRR or order book moves, it cancels and replaces offers to keep your rates competitive without you watching the screen.
What happens if Bitfinex is down?
If the Bitfinex API is unreachable, Stratum pauses and retries rather than acting on stale data. Any offers and loans already on Bitfinex stay exactly where they are, since they live on Bitfinex, not in Stratum. When the API recovers, Stratum resumes repricing on its normal cadence.
Can I use Stratum alongside manual lending?
Yes. You can keep lending manually in the Bitfinex interface while Stratum manages the rest of your funding wallet. You can also pause Stratum, cancel its offers, or adjust your strategy at any time. Because everything runs in your own account, you stay in full control.
Do I need to keep my computer on?
No. Stratum runs in the cloud, so your strategy keeps placing and repricing funding offers 24/7 even when your computer is off. There is no desktop app to leave running and no script to babysit.
How do I start?
Sign up, create a funding-only Bitfinex API key with withdrawals disabled, and connect it to Stratum. Pick one of the 11 backtested strategies, test it against historical funding data or run it in paper mode first, then activate it on your real funding wallet. Bitfinex needs roughly $150 to place a funding offer, and you can pause or change your strategy whenever you like.
